"Could you" is a polite and formal way to make requests. It's often used in situations where you want to be respectful or when you're unsure if the other person will agree.
Making Requests
- Direct requests:
- "Could you please pass the salt?"
- "Could you open the door for me?"
- Asking for help:
- "Could you help me with this project?"
- "Could you give me a ride to the airport?"
- Making a suggestion with a polite request:
- "Could you suggest a good restaurant downtown?"
- "Could you recommend a good book to read?"
Note: While "could you" is primarily used for requests, it can also be used for suggestions, but it's less common.
