Using "Could you" to Make Requests and Suggestions

"Could you" is a polite and formal way to make requests. It's often used in situations where you want to be respectful or when you're unsure if the other person will agree.

Making Requests

  • Direct requests:
    • "Could you please pass the salt?"
    • "Could you open the door for me?"
  • Asking for help:
    • "Could you help me with this project?"
    • "Could you give me a ride to the airport?"
  • Making a suggestion with a polite request:
    • "Could you suggest a good restaurant downtown?"
    • "Could you recommend a good book to read?"

Note: While "could you" is primarily used for requests, it can also be used for suggestions, but it's less common.

Would you like to practice using "could you" in some sentences?
