To be able to exchange LINE messages on your PC, you need to link your smartphone LINE app with the PC version. There are primarily three methods to log in to LINE on your PC, and for most of them, you'll need to use your smartphone at some point.
Here's how to prepare your smartphone and log in to LINE on your PC:
Before You Start: What You Need
LINE PC Application: Download and install the LINE application for your PC (Windows or Mac) from the official LINE website. Alternatively, you can use the LINE Chrome extension if you use the Google Chrome browser.
Your Smartphone: Ensure your LINE app on your smartphone is up to date and you are logged in to your account.
Internet Connection: Both your PC and smartphone need an internet connection.
Smartphone Settings to Enable PC Login (if not already enabled)
For security reasons, LINE often requires you to explicitly allow logins from other devices.
Open the LINE App on your Smartphone:
Go to the "Home" tab.
Access Settings:
Tap the "Settings" icon (gear icon ⚙️) in the top right corner.
Go to Account Settings:
Tap on "Account".
Enable "Allow login" for Sub Devices:
Scroll down and look for "Allow login" (or similar wording like "Allow login from other devices" or "Allow login from secondary devices").
Toggle this setting to ON (green). This is crucial for logging in from your PC.
Methods to Log in to LINE on your PC
Once you have the PC app installed and "Allow login" enabled on your smartphone, choose one of the following login methods:
Method 1: QR Code Login (Most Recommended)
This is often the quickest and most secure method.
On your PC:
Launch the LINE PC application.
You will see a login screen with a QR code displayed. (If you see an email/password field, look for a "QR code login" option).
On your Smartphone:
Open the LINE app.
Find the QR Code Scanner:
Option A (Quick Access): From the "Home" or "Chats" tab, look for the QR code icon usually near the search bar at the top right.
Option B (From Add Friends): Tap the "Home" tab > Tap the "Add friends" icon (person with a plus sign ➕) > Tap "QR code."
Option C (From Settings): Tap the "Home" tab > "Settings" ⚙️ > "Profile" > "My QR code" or "QR code" > then tap "Scan QR code."
Scan the QR Code: Point your smartphone's camera at the QR code displayed on your PC screen.
Confirm Login: After scanning, your smartphone will display a confirmation message like "Do you want to log in to another device?" or "Log in to PC?" Tap "Log in" or "Confirm" on your smartphone.
(Optional) Verification Code: For the very first time you log in to a new PC, or after reinstalling LINE on PC, a 6-digit verification code might appear on your PC screen. You will need to enter this code into your smartphone LINE app (a prompt will usually appear automatically on your smartphone). Do this within 3 minutes, as the code expires.
(Optional) Biometric Authentication: You might be prompted to use Face ID/Touch ID (iOS) or fingerprint/face recognition (Android) on your smartphone to complete the login.
Method 2: Email Address and Password Login
This method requires you to have an email address and password registered with your LINE account.
On your PC:
Launch the LINE PC application.
On the login screen, enter your registered email address and password.
Click "Log in."
On your Smartphone:
If this is the first time logging in from this PC, your smartphone will likely display a verification code (6 digits) that you need to enter into the PC LINE app.
Enter the verification code from your smartphone into the PC LINE application within 3 minutes.
(Optional) Biometric Authentication: You might also be prompted for biometric authentication on your smartphone.
Important Note: If you haven't registered an email address or password with your LINE account yet, you must do so on your smartphone:
Open LINE app > "Home" tab > "Settings" ⚙️ > "Account."
Tap "Email address registration" and follow the steps.
Tap "Password" and set a password.
Method 3: Login with Smartphone (Biometric Information)
This method is available on some versions of the LINE PC app and requires biometric setup on your smartphone.
On your PC:
Launch the LINE PC application.
Select the option "Log in with smartphone" or "Biometric login."
You might be asked to enter your phone number.
A verification code will appear on the PC screen.
On your Smartphone:
A notification will appear on your smartphone prompting you to confirm the login.
You will be asked to enter the verification code displayed on your PC into your smartphone app.
Complete the biometric authentication (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint, etc.) on your smartphone.
After Successful Login:
Once you're logged in on your PC, your chat history will automatically synchronize between your smartphone and PC. You can send and receive messages, make calls, and access most LINE features from your computer.
LINE will send you a notification on your smartphone that you have logged in from a PC, for security purposes.
You can stay logged in on both devices simultaneously.
Remember to log out of LINE on public or shared computers for security reasons.
